Her Drone Journey

Joanna Steidle is an international award-winning professional drone pilot, aerial photographer/videographer, and artist based in the Hamptons area of Long Island, New York.

She owns and operates Hamptons Drone Art, LLC, specializing in fine art drone photography, videography, and FPV (first-person view) drone flights. Her work focuses heavily on marine life, coastal abstracts and ocean conservation, capturing stunning aerial views of whales, sharks, rays, dolphins, schools of menhaden (a keystone forage fish), birds, marshes and coastal patterns.

She began flying drones commercially around 2017 and has built a career around blending artistic expression with environmental advocacy using her aerial perspective to highlight conservation issues in the Atlantic Ocean and coastal areas. Her work includes limited-edition fine art prints, video licensing, and content creation for businesses.

She was most recently honored as International Aerial Photographer of the Year (IAPO 2025) for her drone imagery, particularly related to marine ecosystems and ocean wildlife. Her photography has been featured or recognized by outlets like National Geographic, BBC, Smithsonian magazine, and DJI (she's one of only a small number of female DJI Creators worldwide). Represented by YellowKorner Galleries, her limited-edition prints are represented in over 80 galleries worldwide.  She has received over 30 international photography awards to date.

She's known for her dedication to the craft, often spending long hours searching for the perfect subjects to document and protect through visual storytelling. With a style all her own she continues to progress highlighting the beauty of this world and our oceans. As a conservationist she works closely with multiple global nonprofit organizations like The Nature Conservancy and the Theodore Rooselvet Conservation Partnership to protect and preserve our planet.

My Mission

Capturing the natural beauty, wildlife and interesting moments in time has been a passion since I first took flight, and my hope is that my story & photos inspire others to love our ocean and lands. Giving back is very important to me, and I spend a fair amount of time w teaching, consulting, mentoring women, and supporting non-profits.

I am a prod member of Women and Drones. Being able to shorten the learning curve for new women in the field with accurate information, flying tips & even purchasing tips is paramount to their rapid success. There were countless people who took time to help me when I started & I'm honored to do the same.

Throughout all the learning, I have maintained a strict safety regime and privacy ethic, which I'm extremely proud of. Ultimately, I'd love to travel the World, bringing the joys of drone life with me to distant lands, while sharing the beautiful images with the masses.
